Born on 9 September 1985, in Zadar, Croatia, Luka Modric is a Croatian professional footballer who plays for Croatia national team and La Liga club Real Madrid as a central, attacking or defensive midfielder. He is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world.
Real Madrid star Luka Modrić has won the the Croatian Footballer of the Year(“Football Oscar”) six times. It is the most prestigious annual association football award that is established in 1972 and it is given to the best Croatian football player in the preceding year. The award is usually presented in a ceremony hosted by the Croatian Football Federation. In addition, Modrić has got the Hope of the Year award which is awarded to the best young Croatian player. Only he and Ivica Olić get both the two awards.
“Thanks everyone for the award. I play for the national team and I am very happy because of that. Now all I thinking of is Dinamo and the Euro in France.” Modrić said when he received the “Football Oscar”.
Modrić is described as a quick and creative playmaker and he can play with both feet. This excellent midfielder is know for his ability to pass the ball accurately across long or short distances.
As a core player of Real Madrid, Modrić helped the club win UEFA Champions League, Copa del Rey, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup simultaneously in 2014. In 2015-16 season, the successful team won UEFA Champions League again. In 2016-17, he won La Liga championship with Real Madrid, which was the first time that he had got the title.
Modrić transferred to Real Madrid in 2012 and the club announced the extension of Luka Modrić’s contract until 30 June 2018.
